Walking- the key to life?
I have been doing videos for about 3 weeks on walking. I just felt like most people didn’t understand the value in walking. And when I say most people, I am including myself.
For so many years, I wanted to be sore at the end of a workout. Sore and exhausted or I felt like I had wasted my time. Now, I am older and hopefully a little wiser. I definitely value getting in a good round of kickboxing, HIIT and weightlifting.
But as my face and my waist started to widen, I had to acknowledge that I was doing something wrong. At first, I gave myself the excuse that I am getting older and that is just what happens. Then I got tired of my own excuses. I did some research and I started walking.
Now, if I only have one exercise that I am going to be able to get in during the week, it will be walking. Walking outside, at the beach, in the forest, even around a track. Getting outside and walking. It has been tremendously helpful to me. I know that if I want to slim my face and waist quickly, the best thing that I can do is walk.
I am in the process of figuring out a schedule that helps me to get it in on a more regular basis. Currently, I have a walking buddy who I meet with every Saturday morning at 7 am for a walk.
Why? Because companionship is another key to life. Who would have thought that being social and walking was so helpful to longevity and to being healthy?
The British Journal of Sports Medicine reported the University of Sydney’s newly released study this week. They studied 72,000 people and the results of them walking. They found there was a decrease in mortality of 40% and decrease in cardiovascular disease by 20%. Wow! The science is there!
